The Connection Crisis

The world is facing an unprecedented mental health crisis, amplified by the stresses of the pandemic, war, and social unrest. At the heart of this crisis lies a deeper issue: social disconnection. For the Church, this connection crisis extends to our spiritual lives, hindering our growth and relationship with God.

Advancing Our Understanding of Spiritual Growth

There is a growing recognition that traditional models of discipleship and spiritual growth that focus on information and will power are not sufficient. The Deep Growth Project extends my work developing the Relational Spirituality paradigm (see Relational Spirituality, IVP Academic, 2021 and The Connected Life, IVP Press, 2022).

It aims to address this crisis by advancing our understanding of deep spiritual growth from a relational perspective. We are interviewing adults who have experienced spiritual and emotional growth through significant trials to identify themes and gain a more nuanced picture of the transformation process.

Your Participation Matters

By participating in this study, you will contribute to creating valuable knowledge about spiritual growth that will help address mental health issues and spiritual disconnection in the Church. Your insights will inform the development of new discipleship and coaching programs rooted in Relational Spirituality, a framework that directly addresses the problem of social disconnection.

How to Participate

To participate, you should have experienced some degree of spiritual and emotional growth as a result of working through a significant trial (complete resolution is not necessary). The study involves:

An initial 25-30 minute survey with open-ended and likert-scale questions about your relationships and the trial.

The Impact of Your Contribution

The findings from this study will be used in articles and potentially books to advance our understanding of the spiritual transformation process.
